Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) took back the red jersey as leader of the Vuelta a España from main rival Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) on stage 12 of the Spanish Grand Tour on Sunday, with EF Pro Cycling's Hugh Carthy winning the day on the top of the fearsome Alto de l'Angliru ahead of Astana's Aleksandr Vlasov, Movistar's Enric Mas and Carapaz, with Roglič a further 10 seconds back in fifth place on the stage.
Carapaz now leads Roglič by those same 10 seconds overall, while Carthy's solo victory has moved the British climber up to third place overall, a further 22 seconds back, with Israel Start-Up Nation's Dan Martin dropping to fourth, although the Irishman is still just three seconds off a podium position.
Mas retained his fifth place overall, and so keeps hold of the white jersey as best young rider, although Vlasov has edged a little closer, replacing Saturday's stage winner David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) in second place in the competition.
Despite losing the red jersey, Roglič's consistency throughout the race ensures that he maintains a healthy lead in the green points jersey standings, while Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) looks comfortable in the blue-and-white polka-dot jersey at the top of the mountains classification.
This year's shortened, rescheduled Vuelta got under way in Irun, in the Basque Country, on October 20, and is being run over 18 stages to Madrid, finishing in Spain's capital city on November 8.
Monday is the second of the race's two rest days, with racing recommencing with the Vuelta's sole time trial on Tuesday: a mainly flat, 33.7km individual test for stage 13 from Muros to Mirador de Ezaro, finishing with what is a third-category climb.

Vuelta A Espana White Jersey 2020
There are four jerseys in the Vuelta a España. Here’s a quick summary…
Red jersey
The red jersey is the leader’s jersey. Once gold in colour, in 2010 it became red. In years past it has been orange, white and yellow too. It is worn by the leading rider on the overall classification, meaning the rider who has taken the shortest time to complete each stage in the race. It’s sponsored by Ahorra Energia (“Save Energy”), a government agency.
Polka dot
This is for the best climber in the race and it’s like the Tour de France… only with blue dots. It is sponsored by Renfe or Red Nacional de Ferrocarriles Españoles, the Spanish national railway.
Green jersey
The points jersey. Riders win points at the finish line and intermediate sprints and the points are tilted in favour of the sprint finishes. It’s sponsored by España Recicla (“Spain Recycles”), a government agency.

White jersey
The “all rounder” jersey, sometimes called the combination. It is based on the combination of the overall, the mountain points and green jersey points whereby a rider’s position in each competition is added and the lowest standing wins, eg 4th on overall, 9th on the mountains and 2nd in the points equals 15 combination points. Remember the lowest tally determines the leader. The sponsor is Fertiberia, a Spanish brand of agricultural fertilisers.
